In Pictures: Race to succeed Jokowi sweeps Indonesia

Indonesians will cast their ballots on Wednesday in what is the world's largest direct presidential vote, determining the direction of Southeast Asia's largest economy for the next five years.

The election is a three-way fight between Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, 72, former Jakarta Gov. Anies Baswedan, 54, and former Central Java Gov. Ganjar Pranowo, 55. The winner will take over from incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who is not running this time as he is constitutionally barred from a third term.

The election campaign, which officially started in late November, ended on Saturday, entering a cooling-off period from Sunday to Tuesday before polling.

The campaign revealed the young and populous nation's enthusiasm for the big event. Rallies drew thousands of supporters wearing shirts bearing candidates' names, while posters and banners showing the candidates were seen everywhere in town.
